Often times you may have your own methods for managing users and their email addresses for purposes of marketing and newsletters. Though WordPress has a wonderful user registration capability already built in, integrating this with your 3rd party email marketing process can be quite the task. This specific plugin integrates with AWeber Communications for those of you who have accounts with them. It works by seamlessly integrating with your WordPress system such that when a user registers on your site through your standard WordPress registration form and enters their name and email, as they submit the form this information is sent along to AWeber using your WordPress account information to register them with your marketing account.

A little bit about AWeber Communications:

Founded in 1998, we create email marketing software to help small businesses automate email follow up and email newsletter delivery.

Our growing team shares a wealth of experience and knowledge about permission-based email marketing with the over 61,000 current customers we work with daily.

If you prefer to upload the files yourself just select one of the two compressed files below, unzip the package within your plugin folder (wp-content/plugins), or upload the files to your plugin folder, either/or. Alternatively, you can search ‘AWeber Registration Integration’ from your Plugins menu within WordPress to install directly to your blog, or install the files directly from WordPress at the link below.

Once the files are in their proper place, log in to your WordPress control panel, go to the Plugins section and activate the AWeber Registration Integration plugin. Once active you will now have a new submenu in the Settings pane on the left. Click on the AWeber Integration submenu and be sure to enter your Form ID and Unit Name so that the plugin can access the API and integrate with your account. This information can be found in the HTML form code provided to you through your AWeber account so be sure to login to your account and retrieve this information. The plugin will not integrate with your WordPress registration process until this information has been entered.

Note: The user will not be automatically and forcefully added to your AWeber account. They will receive a confirmation email from AWeber confirming their intent to register with their site on behalf of your newsletter or marketing campaign.

If you find this plugin useful, please donate. Donations help pay for my AWeber account which allows me to continue supporting and improving this plugin as WordPress and Aweber continue to evolve on their respective paths.

    @troy,

    Glad things are working again for you. Regarding your suggestion, that certainly is a good point. Perhaps with the little bit of holiday time I have left I will work on pushing out v2.0 with that in mind. I might have to give AWeber another call though to make sure pushing large numbers of contacts won’t get you blacklisted in their system. Alternatively, I may investigate whether they have bulk import or not and see if I can’t generate an export file instead.

    Thanks again and cheers!

    @GKauten Consulting
    Perfect thanks!

    On a related note, is there a way for existing users details to be passed to aweber so the aweber confirmation email can be sent? I have a wordpress website with 16,000 users and would like to get them to subscribe via aweber. Not really sure how to get their details over to aweber easily. Any thoughts?

    Thanks
    Troy

    @troy,

    Version 1.2.8 released tonight addresses the concerns with the Display Opt-In feature and should resolve any issues previously seen. Additionally, after considering your suggestion, I agree that the Display Opt-In should be checked by default and have made the necessary changes.

    Thanks again for your feedback! Cheers!

    Thanks for the update, and clarification.

    I’ve got the plugin working now, thanks heaps! Though i can’t get it to work when I have the field “Display Opt-in” unchecked. Works fine when checked, though if possible it’d be great if default was ticked on.

    Thanks for your efforts!

    Hi I’m trying to get this working. On the set up screen it asks for the “Unit Name” which is (From HTML Code: name=”unit”). However, I can’t spot that in the HTML code?

    I can see name=”listname” – is that the same thing? Has the aweber code changed?

    Thanks

      Hi Troy,

      Yes, it appears that AWeber has changed their code a bit to fit in with their new form generator utility. In light of this, I am going to have to update the plugin to account for this and will post a new release within the next hour. Once released you will see the automatic upgrade feature available in your WordPress Plugins list.

      Thank you for bringing this to my attention! Cheers!

      Sidenote: After investigation, this does not appear to have any affect on the functionality of the plugin but is a technical change in the raw HTML form code which makes it a little confusing to find the variables needed on the plugin’s administration page.

    Great plugin!

    I have a rebranded Aweber package (Ninjaresponder.com). What code do I need to modify in order to get it to work?

    Thanks

    @紫雨老师
    There is a changelog available in the ‘readme.txt’ file distributed with the plugin as well as on the WordPress page (link in description above).
