Every once in a while you come across a feature or two that at the beginning seems really neat, but after a little while you realize things could run smoother or more efficiently if that feature wasn’t there. WP Feature Disable is the saving grace when it comes to getting rid of certain WordPress features. The idea is not to disable or harm the blog, but to simply help it be more efficient, use less database space, or simply hide so-called ‘nag’ screens. Turning features on and off is as simple as clicking a check-box and to make things better, nothing is permanent in case you decide you want that feature back later! » Read the Rest
Well it seems to be that time again to update your WordPress blog to fix two security vulnerabilities that were found in the previous 2.8.5 version. Most of you out there who use WordPress as your own personal blog and do not allow any of your registered users to post are not really affected by this. It seems that the vulnerabilities can only be exploited by registered and logged in users with posting privileges. Like usual though, no one says it better than the fine folks over at WordPress… » Read the Rest
After a few months time since the last release, WordPress has announced yet another release of their popular blogging software. With the previous release being geared towards security, this new release boasts some hardening improvements that were discovered during their work towards version 2.9. One of the most important changes in this new version is the fix for the Trackback Denial-of-Service problem that people have been experiencing. A new version of our home-grown AWeber Registration Integration plugin was released today marking version 1.2. Alongside some new error handling, two new features were added to the administration panel allowing the site owner to control whether people have the option to opt-in or not during registration as well as quickly disable the plugin without having to deactivate it. We’re so proud of it we even added a screenshot to show it off. Enough talk, check it out for yourself! View the plugin information here: AWeber Registration Integration » Read the Rest
In a little under two weeks time since the last release WordPress has released a new version of their popular blogging platform. Version 2.8.4 is said to correct a relatively serious security issue but I think the folks over at WordPress explain it a touch better so you can catch their side of the story below. I do however encourage everyone to keep in mind that updates are released to help correct performance issues, security issues, or even just clean up previous source files to reduce overhead. In any case these updates are released to improve upon the software platform so there really isn’t much reason to put it off unless you have your own specific reasons. » Read the Rest
Just a small post today as I am currently buried in excessive amounts of other work right now. I will however expand upon this post as time serves until it eventually becomes a relatively well rounded entry. However, for the time being I am going to share just a quick bit of information with you on how to slow down the amount of spam you receive on your WordPress blog. » Read the Rest
Another step up for the blogging community was achieved as WordPress released version 2.8.3 of their popular platform. Don’t start jumping up and down just yet though expecting to see a rash of new features. This release has been marked as a security release, but this doesn’t make it any less important. The point of updates in general is to enhance and refine previous releases of a certain piece of software. When an update is released as a security update it makes it even more important because it means there is some element of the previous release that has been found insufficient or exposed resulting in a definite security concern. If you haven’t done so already, make sure you hit that wonderful little “Upgrade Now” button in your administration, or download the package and get it uploaded. » Read the Rest

Often times you may have your own methods for managing users and their email addresses for purposes of marketing and newsletters. Though WordPress has a wonderful user registration capability already built in, integrating this with your 3rd party email marketing process can be quite the task. This specific plugin integrates with AWeber Communications for those of you who have accounts with them. It works by seamlessly integrating with your WordPress system such that when a user registers on your site through your standard WordPress registration form and enters their name and email, as they submit the form this information is sent along to AWeber using your WordPress account information to register them with your marketing account. » Read the Rest
We have all undoubtedly heard of the new internet sensation, Twitter! Chances are you probably already have a Twitter account or have several friends that do. Well for those of us that do have Twitter, and of course a WordPress blog, there is just something neat about the idea of incorporating them for a little cross-site promotion. Thankfully, Twitter already thought about this and produced quite a wonderful little API to do this. Now, to make it better, I have packaged everything up into a simple little plugin aptly named Humble Twitter which will allow you to display your Twitter Tweets on your WordPress blog. You can put them in your sidebar, before or after post content, pretty much anywhere you want. To top it all off I built in a few different controls that allow you to quickly and easily customize the appearance of your Tweets without having to hack through any files. » Read the Rest
